Heather Peterson

MS, Clinical Trainee

Heather has been employed with North Homes Children and Family Services for 12 years, starting her career as a Professional Foster Care Case Manager with the agency in September of 2008. Heather’s passion was always to become a mental health counselor within her community of Bemidji, MN.

Heather enrolled in Capella University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Graduate Program in 2016.  Heather completed her counseling internship at North Homes and graduated with distinguished honors with her MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling on September 17, 2020.  Heather was hired as a Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Trainee at North Homes in October of 2020.

Heather currently completes diagnostic assessments for children 6 and older, adolescents, and adults. She is able to provide ongoing individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults; utilizing culturally sensitive and evidenced-based practices of therapy such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Client-Centered approaches. Heather’s interests lie in strengths-based, mindfulness, and trauma related approaches to individuals of all ages. Heather is currently working toward gaining her National Certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is a member of Chi Sigma Iota Collegiate Honor Society, as well as an active member of the American Counseling Association.

Heather provides services at our Bemidji clinic, and the Bemidji Middle School.
