Designated as a Rule 29 Community Mental Health Center and Essential Community Provider, staff provide professional mental health services including diagnostic assessments and psychological evaluation to assess client mental health needs and functioning and are the foundation for mental health interventions and treatment planning. Treatment services include individual and family therapy utilizing evidence-based practices and psychiatric medication management.

A multi-disciplinary team works together to staff cases on a weekly basis to collaborate, consult, and coordinate evidence-based and best practice models through the North Homes Children and Family Services continuum of care. This team includes the following professionals: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors, Licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Licensed Psychiatrists and Licensed Psychologists.

Outpatient mental health services are provided in Bemidji, Grand Rapids, Deer River (limited) and Duluth; telehealth options are available.

Intensive Treatment in Foster Care (ITFC)

North Homes Children and Family Services is certified to provide intensive treatment in foster care (ITFC), a comprehensive mental health service for children with significant mental health symptoms and impairments in their functional abilities who are living in a family foster care setting. ITFC services include psychotherapy, psycho-education, clinical consultation and crisis assistance. Services must be provided at least three days per week, equaling at least six hours of treatment per week, and in the child’s biological family home, foster home, school, or other natural setting. Services are guided by an individualized treatment planning process that is culturally appropriate, child-centered and family driven. ITFC utilizes a treatment team approach, providing services in continual collaboration and consultation with the child’s medical providers, mental health professionals, education and social services case managers, and any other professionals working with the child.

School-Based Services

Some of the North Homes Children and Family school contracts include having on-site mental health professionals. Staff are able to complete diagnostic assessments and provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy at the school; helping to keep kids in and at school while removing the barrier of transportation to a different site during the school day.
