Our Story

North Homes Children and Family Services is a private, non-profit agency that provides comprehensive mental health services to children and families across Northern Minnesota.

North Homes was first imagined in the 1980’s when Jim Christmas, Founder and CEO, noticed a gap in services for youth in the northland. He saw that most children at this time were being sent out of the area for needed services, adding costs to and stress on families. It was his vision to start an organization that would support keeping families together and youth connected to their community.

Since our founding in 1990, we’ve grown from one residential group home in Grand Rapids to offering numerous programs throughout Northern Minnesota to best meet and support the mental health needs of clients.

Our-Story

Providing A Community-Based Continuum Of Compassionate Care To Children And Families

To us, this means offering multiple programs that support the mental-health needs of clients – all within one organization. This continuum of care philosophy allows individuals to transition to less restrictive settings as they attain their specific goals within a seamless and supportive community of professionals.

By building on the strengths of each individual, we empower clients to successfully return to their families, home communities, and independent living settings.

As every family and child has a different story, North Homes offers a service continuum that takes an individualized and holistic approach to treatment.
